BALTIMORE, Md. – A slow start doomed the No. 6 UIndy women's lacrosse team (7-1) on Thursday afternoon, as a second-half surge was too late in its non-conference contest against No. 1 Le Moyne (4-0) at the U.S. Lacrosse Facility.
Â
The Greyhounds scored nine goals in the final 30 minutes, but fell to the top-ranked Dolphins, 16-12.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dolphins built an 8-0 lead before
Grace Gunneson out the Hounds on the board with her first of four goals on the afternoon. Le Moyne led at halftime, 12-3, which would prove to be enough to fend off the late Hounds' run.
Â
Gunneson led a UIndy attack that scored five straight goals midway through the second half to cut the deficit to 13-9, but the Dolphins responded with a pair of scores to put the game out of reach.
Lauryn Hardoy and
Peyton Romig each added goals at the end of the game to make it 16-12 before the final horn.
