Hounds Down Eagles, Corsaro Earns First Win

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men basketball team (1-7, 1-7 GLVC) earned a 62-61 comeback win against visiting Southern Indiana Thursday night, delivering the first career victory for rookie head coach and UIndy alum Paul Corsaro. Redshirt-freshman Jesse Bingham led all players with 21 points.

The result also spoiled a homecoming of sorts for USI head coach Stan Gouard. Corsaro's former mentor left to coach his alma mater last offseason after spending the last 12 years as the Greyhound head man.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The roller-coaster night saw UIndy trail by much as 13 points in the first half, lead by a single tally midway through the second half and later fall behind by seven with just eight minutes to go. The resilient Greyhounds would not go away, however, running off eight unanswered points to earn a 51-50 edge at the five-minute mark.

UIndy knocked down some big shots down the stretch, including a triple from freshman Aaron Etherington and a pair of deep balls from senior Dee Montgomery. Bingham capped the scoring with two clutch free throws in the final minute to break a 60-60 tie, and the Hounds held on for the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Bingham has scored in double figures in each of the last five games, shooting better than 55 percent and averaging 16.0 ppg over that span.
-Etherington's 13 points set a new season high.
-Sophomore Ben Nicoson drained a running 35-footer at the first-half buzzer.
-Both teams shot an identical 20 for 53 (.377) from the field.
-UIndy made just 10 of 22 (.455) from the foul line but forced 23 USI turnovers.
-The Hounds have now won three straight versus USI.

HOUNDS BYTES
Etherington on the team's resiliency tonight…
"We all believe. We believe in the big picture here. Everyone's come in with the same mindset every day and working as hard as we can, so that's a big reason why we got a win today."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds turnaround and head for Evansville, Ind., for a rematch with these same Screaming Eagles. Tip is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET.
