QUINCY, Ill. – In its first action in nearly three weeks, the UIndy men's basketball team (0-4, 0-4 GLVC) dropped an 83-73 decision at Quincy University late Sunday afternoon. The host Hawks (2-5, 2-5) shot nearly 50 percent from the field in the second half and knocked down 10 of 11 free throws in the final 68 seconds to hold off the Greyhounds and deny them their first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing the majority of the first half, the Hounds sandwiched intermission with a 19-4 run to jump in front. Senior
Cory Miller Jr. completed a pair of conventional 3-point plays to help fuel the surge, while
Jesse Bingham capped the run with a triple to put UIndy up, 47-38.
Â
The Hawks responded with a game-changing run of their own, however, scoring 17 of the next 18 points to flip the script. UIndy crept to within a deuce at one point and later trailed by just three with 1:19 to go, but Quincy was able to cash in from the foul line and keep the Hounds at arm's length.
Â
Dee Montgomery led four Greyhounds in double figures, scoring 19 points despite shooting just 6 of 23 (.261) from the floor. Miller Jr. finished with 17 points and seven rebounds;
Kendrick Tchoua added 14 points, six boards and three steals; while Bingham scored a season-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- UIndy's 73 points set a season high, though just seven of its 28 buckets featured assists.
- Five Greyhounds had at least five rebounds.
- Tchoua did his damage in just 20 minutes of playing time, as the sophomore big man dealt with foul trouble most of the afternoon, eventually fouling out with 1:08 left.
-
Ben Nicoson made his first start of the season and just the second of his career, while both
Julian Steinfeld and
Murray Becher made their Greyhound debuts.
- Quincy, who came into the game as the GLVC's most accurate 3-point shooting team, knocked down 11 of 32 shots from distance.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Paul Corsaro's takeaway …
"I thought our guys played really hard. I never question our guys' effort, but we have to get across to them that it is so hard to win a basketball game. There's a lot that goes into it that a lot of people don't realize, and 'almost good enough' isn't good enough. We were up nine right there, and I think we got in coast mode a little bit instead of put-them-away mode."
