INDIANAPOLIS – With the 2021-22 season right around the corner, the University of Indianapolis men's basketball team was selected fourth in the East Division this season according to the GLVC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll which was released on Wednesday. The annual poll was voted on by the league coaches and ranks the top five teams in each of the conference's three divisions.
The Hounds were slotted fourth after earning eight points while Southern Indiana sits atop the East Division with 13 points. Illinois Springfield and Lewis tied for second with 11 points while McKendree sits in fifth in seven points. UMSL (Central) and Drury (West) took the top spot in their respective divisions with 15 points each.
The GLVC regular season will feature three divisions and a 20-game schedule, where every team plays every divisional opponent twice – home and away – two random non-divisional opponents twice – home and away – and every other non-divisional opponent once. The top-eight teams with the most points derived from the familiar GLVC Point Rating System at the end of the regular season will earn a berth to the GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament March 3-6 at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Illinois, on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
UIndy kicks off the new campaign with three exhibition games in five days next week. The Hounds will travel to Ohio State on Monday, Purdue on Thursday and Butler on Friday. The regular season opens at home on Friday, November 12 against Lake Erie.
