Women’s Golf Adds Three Signees for 2022-23

INDIANAPOLIS—The UIndy head coach Brent Nicoson is proud to announce a trio of additions to his women's golf team. Macey Brown, Ava Ray and Alice Webb each signed their National Letters of Intent recently to join the Greyhounds in the fall of 2022.

"Our players and coaching staff have worked extremely hard to create a successful and competitive culture both on and off the golf course," said Nicoson. "The three young ladies we have joining us will be tremendous additions to our team and most importantly, our culture. Our current players are very happy and we are all so excited they are now Greyhounds."

HOUND BYTES
"Macey is perfect for our Greyhound golf culture," said Nicoson. "She is an extremely mature young lady, a hard worker and is an extremely coachable player. Most important to me is her off-the-course character, as she is very loyal, grateful and genuinely loves to help her teammates and others. These traits will make us a better team, and I can't wait to have her in Indianapolis.

"Her golf success speaks for itself, and I am confident that her game will elevate to an even-higher level when she arrives on campus. She is a very talented player who, due to her very busy schedule, has yet to focus solely on golf."

AVA RAY
Ava RayRay comes to Indy from nearby Franklin, Ind., and Franklin Community High School. During her senior season, she racked up five tournament wins, including county, conference and sectional medals, and went on to earn All-State honors after a third-place finish at the IHSAA Girls' State Finals. She carded a 67 at the Mid-State Conference Championship, setting a new league record and matching the school record for lowest round.

Ray has also had success in summer tournaments, winning the 2020 Johnson County Tournament series, while earning the first alternate spot on the USGA Women's Four-Ball Championship and also qualifying for the USGA Girls Championship.

Academically, Ray has compiled a lofty 4.157 GPA, with extracurricular activities including National Honor Society Vice President, IHSAA Student Advisory Committee member, Harvard Model Congress Executive Council member and Spell Bowl President.

Ava is the daughter of Darrell and Lorie Ray and is the older sister of Lexi. She intends to study Law at UIndy.

HOUND BYTES
"Ava will be a perfect addition to our program," stated Nicoson. "She succeeds at everything she does, as shown by both her golf and academic accolades. She is a hard worker, a great fit for the culture of our program and is a competitor who genuinely hates to lose.

"Ava hits the ball a long way, which will help her tremendously as she transitions from high school to high-level collegiate golf.  She learned how to win this past high school season, which will help our team by adding another player who is comfortable around the top of leaderboards.  The best thing about Ava is that she is simply a great young lady and I am very pleased and excited that she will be wearing the 'Flying I'."

ALICE WEBB
Hailing from across the pond, Webb will by far be making the longest trek of the three to continue her academic and golf career at UIndy.  From her hometown of BAlice Webbournemouth, England, she racked up a number of accolades and accomplishments on the course.

Webb was the runner-up at both the 2021 Dorset County Ladies Championship and 2021 West of England Girls Championship. HOUND BYTES
"Alice is one of the most relentless workers I have seen," Nicoson shared, "and we are grateful that she will be Greyhound. She took a gap year to work on her golf game and has gained valuable experience that she will utilize as soon as she arrives on campus. She is a very powerful player who creates a lot of speed in her swing, which will help her play at a high collegiate level.

"She is simply a great young lady and will be an exceptional teammate. I am extremely anxious to coach Alice and look forward to her representing our program for the next few years."
