Hounds Vanquish Crosstown Bulldogs, 5-2

INDIANAPOLIS - There was no love on Valentine 's Day between the No. 10-ranked Greyhounds and the crosstown Butler Bulldogs at the UIndy Tennis Center Sunday. With the 5-2 Hounds win, it marks the second year in a row that the men's tennis team has knocked off the Division I Bulldogs.

Action kicked off at 5 p.m. with doubles, which saw all three go in favor of the Greyhounds by identical 6-4 scores. The pair of sophomores Tom Zeuch and Jason Gerweck finished first, followed by sophomore Nikolaj Talimaa and senior Agustin Gascia. Finishing off doubles was the freshmen tandem of Yoann Viel and Pedro Franca.

The 6-2 sophomore Talimaa started the Hounds on the winning side of singles, pulling off a straight sets win 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles spot. He was followed by sophomore Dominik Koenig, who endured one of the only two losses of the day for the Hounds in two 3-6 sets.

The undefeated Hounds then racked up three straight wins, securing their victory over the visiting Bulldogs. Viel highlighted the stretch with a three-set, comeback win, rebounding from a 4-6 loss in the first with wins of 6-3 and 6-0. Gerweck kept the train rolling as he earned a "W" in just two sets with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Then the match of the day came to pass in the No. 1 singles spot which saw UIndy's own Zeuch face off against Butler junior Thomas Brennan. Zeuch jumped on Brennan early in the first set, capturing a quick 6-2 victory. Tempers flared in the second set as Brannan came back with a vengeance with a 6-3 win. And to finish up the match, Zeuch fought tooth and nail to come out with a 7-5 win with his teammates and coaches watching on.

And to wrap up the evening, Gascia lost a close match to the Bulldog sophomore Fillip Tensing 3-6, 6-2, 3-6.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will stay in Uindy Tennis center for a pair of exhibition matches with the Northwood Timberwolves and the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats on Feb. 19.
