Greyhounds Manage Double-Digit Comeback in Clutch Road Win

ROLLA, Mo. – The UIndy men's basketball (8-10, 8-10 GLVC) overcame a late 14-point deficit at Missouri S&T Saturday evening, earning 73-64 and keeping their postseason hopes alive. Redshirt-freshman Jesse Bingham and senior Mikail Simmons combined for 48 points to lead the way, with each recording a career high.

INS & OUTS
Trailing 56-42 at the under-eight media timeout, the Greyhounds were facing a potential crippling loss to S&T (4-13, 4-13). UIndy responded with an epic surge, engineering a game-ended 29-6 run to sprint past the unwitting Miners.

"Our guys showed tremendous fight tonight; down 14 with less than eight minutes left," noted head coach Paul Corsaro. "Their determination and faith in each other never wavered."

The Hounds got it done on both ends of the court, forcing six turnovers and holding the Miners to a single field goal in the final eight minutes while knocking down 7 of 8 shots on the offensive end, including three 3-pointers.

INSIDE THE BOX
-Bingham poured in a game-high 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
-Simmons also set a career high, racking up 20 points and five made 3-pointetrs.
-Dee Montgomery stuffed the box score with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, six steals and two blocks.

HOUND BYTES
Corsaro on contributions from some of his less heralded players…
"We had some key contributions from guys who aren't the ones who are typically getting the notoriety. Mikail Simmons hit five 3s and set a new UIndy career high with 20 points; that was so big for us.

"And Julian Steinfeld came off the bench and the energy that he gave in eight minutes was tremendous … he had four rebounds in eight minutes played and he hit two clutch free throws that to me were a big momentum changer. I think we were down two at the time and he sank both to tie it. I thought he gave us some big, big minutes, and those guys really stepped up with Kendrick (Tchoua) being in foul trouble, and I'm really proud of both of them."

Simmons on what the coaches told them at the pivotal under-eight timeout ...
"They told us to trust ourselves. We've been in this spot before, so we have to get stops, get out and run in transition because it's tough to guard us there."

Corsaro on Bingham and Montgomery's contributions…
"The toughness plays from Jesse and Dee were huge. Jesse had a big game overall but six of his rebounds came on the offensive end, keeping possessions alive for us in the second half. And Dee had 12 rebounds from the point guard position and six steals – the majority of those coming in the comeback –  and they both just had a refuse-to-lose mentality."

Assistant Coach Roosevelt Jones on the team's confidence down the stretch ...
"It for sure builds confidence because even when we're down, we've show that we can come back and win those games. Earlier in the season when we got down, we just folded under pressure. We just keep hitting singles and not going for home runs and they believe in that. We can come out with the win no matter what the situation is."

MORE NOTES
UIndy has now won 11 in a row versus Missouri S&T. The Hounds have not lost to the Miners since January of 2009.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds plant themselves in Nicoson Hall for the remainder of the regular season. Three home games remain on the schedule, starting with a Tuesday night meeting with McKendree.
