EDMOND, Okla. - With its second straight 4-0 sweep, the top-seeded UIndy women's tennis team is moving to the finals at the ITA DII Indoor Team Championship. The Greyhounds defeated eighth-ranked Central Oklahoma Saturday and will move on to Sunday's final for a rematch with No. 14 Bearcats from Southwest Baptist University.
For the match with UCO, it was the Hounds third sweep of the season and their second of the ITA Indoors. They kicked it off with a quick capture of the double point. Seniors
Alina Kislitskaya and
Kristina Lagoda in the No. 2 spot and the
Maria Solnyshkina and
Sofia Sharonova at No. 3 both pick up wins. Kislitskaya and Lagoda secured their match first with a 6-2 win. Following them was Solnyshkina and Sharonova icing doubles with a 6-3 win. Juniors
Nikol Alekseeva and
Anna Novikova did not finish their match.
The Hounds kept it rolling in singles, as Kislitskaya drew first blood with a two-set win, 6-3, 6-4. And continuing through was Sharonova out of the No. 6 spot, who won a close 7-6 first set before striking back with ferocity to take a 6-1 win. And to seal the team win for the Hounds it was Alekseeva, who continued her stellar junior season by taking the first set 7-6 and the second 6-3 to move the Hounds to the finals.
Novikova, Lagoda and Sholnyshkina did not play their matches to completion.
UP NEXT
Set for 3:30 p.m. ET tomorrow at Edmonds Center Court, the finals will be an all-GLVC affair. The Hounds have already faced and defeated the Bearcats in a 6-1 victory just last week.
