KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The UIndy women's basketball team (7-8, 7-8 GLVC) traveled out to Kirksville, Mo., Thursday night for a contest against one of the best teams in the conference in 24th-ranked Truman (11-3, 11-3). Senior
Mickey Sasson went on a tear on both ends of the floor, scoring 20 points and pulling a career-high 18 rebounds to lead the Greyhounds to a 78-74 upset victory.
INS & OUTS
Despite the quick 7-0 start by Truman, the Hounds were able to hang tough and pull back into the game with a 23-15 rebounding advantage in the first half, where they pulled off a slim 29-28 lead at the half. The Bulldogs were held to only four baskets in the second quarter off 25-percent shooting from the field, but three of those four were from deep and kept the ballgame close.
Truman came out in the second half on a mission, as they went on a 20-10 run in the first six minutes. But the Greyhounds would find their mark from deep, as they would get three baskets behind the arc from
Marissa Knobloch,
Lauren With and
Mickey Sasson.
In a seven-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter, the Hounds hit a defensive spark that would ultimately push them past the Bulldogs. Allowing only seven points in the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds' 16-point performance came from five different players, assisting on six baskets to provide open looks on the floor.
Truman's Hannah Belanger would hit the and-1 opportunity with just seven seconds left to tie the game at 66 points apiece, but the missed free throw forced the game to overtime. Despite two quick baskets by Truman in the first minute of extra time, UIndy's offense ignited with 12 points against Truman's four in the final four minutes of the game.
Taylor Drury would hit three baskets to ice the game, as all 13 points of her points came after halftime.

- UIndy's five team turnovers marked the lowest total so far this season.
