ALLENDALE, Mich. - After a quick reschedule to play the No. 10 Grand Valley State Lakers (3-1, 0-0 GLIAC) on Sunday instead of Saturday, the No. 3 UIndy Greyhounds (5-0, 0-0 GLVC) traveled up north to take on their second top-10 clash of the season. The Hounds were able to outlast a second-half surge from the Lakers, Sarah Klein leading the team on a tight 9-7 victory.
INS & OUTS
UIndy was able to kick off the game with a hot start, finishing the first half off a 7-3 score. Klein was the Hounds' main conductor on offense, recording a pair of goals and three assists in the first half alone, those marks leading the team in their respected categories. Grace Gunneson was also rolling in the offense on Sunday, taking her own unassisted goal with giving two excellent for both of Klein's goals in the first half. The Hounds were able to stay disciplined in the contest, setting up perfectly on defense from the free position to not allow a single free-poisition shot for the Lakers.
The second-half included a surge from Grand Valley's offense, out scoring the Greyhounds 4-2 to bring the game within two scores. The Hounds stayed aggressive on offense, tossing 11 shots on goal at the the Lakers' goalkeeper, who collected nine saves in the second half. After 20 minutes of no goals to start the second half, Lauryn Hardoy earned her second goal of the day with 10 minutes left on the clock to keep the Greyhounds up three goals. With 90 seconds to go in the game, the Lakers put the game to just one goal, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seat. With UIndy winning the draw control off of that goal by a Riley McClure scoop, the Greyhounds were able to hold the ball until a last-second shot, which was nailed by Christina Sato as regulation ended.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach James Delaney on the team's mindset throughout the tight contest …
"GVSU is one of the best programs in the country, so we knew we'd have our hands full. Not every game is going to be pretty, but learning how to grind out these close games against a really good opponent is going to be huge for us as we continue to grow down the stretch run of the season. The players on this team are mentally and physically tough, and they know how to battle, grind, get the job done and ultimately become the winners."
Sarah Klein on the team's play against the Lakers …
"All we wanted to do was play our best as a team. Our shots weren't falling as normal, so we turned to being selective on our shots. Our defense stepped up when the shots weren't falling, and the draw [controls] gave us extra possessions to keep grinding on offense."
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will have one more non-conference matchup before starting to play against GLVC teams, taking on Colorado Mesa on Tuesday, March 23. The contest will take place at Key Stadium, the first draw control being collected at 3 p.m.
