INDIANAPOLIS - Just two days after they took down No. 10 Grand Valley State on the road, the No. 2 UIndy Greyhounds (6-0, 0-0 GLVC) hosted another top-25 ranked team in Colorado Mesa (1-3, 0-0 RMAC) at Key Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Hounds threw shutdown defense in the second half against the Mavericks, only allowing two goals in the back half of the game for a final score of 18-7.
INS & OUTS
Colorado Mesa was able to get an upper-hand on the Greyhounds, the Mavericks took a lead within the contest's first 90 seconds of action. Less than four minutes later, the UIndy offense would move into hyper drive with four unanswered goals, a pair each from Lauryn Hardoy and Abigail Lagos. After Hardoy dropped off her fourth goal of the evening in 17 minutes of action, the game went back and forth for the entire rest of the half. The Greyhounds were the aggressors in the first half, the team took 32 shots in the first half alone at Colorado Mesa's net. The Hounds had four different scorers with their 10 goals in the first half coming from Hardoy, Lagos, Sarah Klein and Grace Gunneson.
UIndy kept the high octane offense as they came out to the second half, but matched that effort for a stellar defensive hold on the other side of the field. The Greyhounds cut down the Mavericks shot attempts essentially in half in the second segment of action, down to only seven tries at the goal in the back-30 minutes. Erika Mayette would cause a season-high three turnovers to led the team, Colorado Mesa committing 17 turnovers throughout the contest. Junior Cassidy King would total nine saves in the net as the Hounds' final guardian of the goal, now allowing only five goals a game against nationally-ranked opponents. The Greyhounds would shut down the game with scoring the final seven goals in the game from six different student-athletes.
