Conference Tourney Run Ends in Loss to Lewis

ST. LOUIS – The UIndy men's basketball team wrapped up its season Saturday, falling in the GLVC Tournament semifinal, 73-57, to fifth-seeded Lewis University. The Greyhounds finished the year with an 11-12 record, while the Flyers move on to Sunday's conference final matchup with Drury.

Sophomore Kendrick Tchoua led the Greyhounds with 21 points and seven rebounds..

INS & OUTS
UIndy trailed by a single point at the half and later led 48-45 with 12 minutes left, but the Flyers rallied to score 19 unanswered points and pull away.

Though the Hounds have played from behind and won time and time again this season, they essentially traded points the rest of the way and were unable to mount a comeback.

Tchoua was a force for the Greyhounds Saturday, sinking all 10 field goal attempts while adding three assists, a block and a steal. Senior Cory Miller Jr. scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half as the only other Greyhound in double figures.

INSIDE THE BOX
- The game featured eight lead changes and five ties.
- UIndy struggled from behind the arc, shooting just 4 of 21 (.190) from deep.
- Three Hounds had two steals: Dee Montgomery, Mikail Simmons and Jesse Bingham.

MORE NOTES
UIndy had an especially remarkable season in 2020-21. Along with the challenges posed by the pandemic, the Hounds overcame a 0-7 start to become one of the best teams in the conference over the last seven weeks. They won 11 of their final 16 games to earn an improbable postseason berth, culminating in a come-from-behind win against the No. 2-ranked team in the GLVC quarterfinal.

"We really grew throughout the year," said Head Coach Paul Corsaro after the loss Saturday. "We went 11-5 in our last 16 games, and we showed a lot of heart throughout the year. My guys played really hard, and they're a really good group of kids too; they're great people.

"I'm definitely encouraged that we got this team moving in the right direction."
