INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis wrestling team finished the year with the third-best GPA in NCAA Division II, as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the 2021 NCAA Division II Scholar All-America honorees Monday afternoon.

UIndy posted a GPA of 3.413 for its 10 NCAA Super Regional starters, good for third-best in the team rankings. Fellow GLVC member Maryville finished atop the rankings for the fourth straight year with a 3.650 GPA, with Emmanuel taking second with a GPA of 3.416. Augustana (3.355) and Coker (3.345) round out the top five teams. 

Individually, 12 Greyhounds earned Scholar All-America status, highlighted by Matt McKinney's fourth career selection. He joins Ethan Harris (2009-12), Nick Crume (2015-18) and Brody Conner (2017-20) as the only student-athletes in program history to be four-time Scholar All-America selections. Nick Brady and Zach Fry were both selected for the third time in their careers, while Jack Eiteljorge, Gleason Mappes and Chase Wilkerson all earned Scholar All-America honors for the second time. Breyden Bailey, Nathan Conley, Wade Monebrake, Gavin Ritter, Andrew Sams and Jay Thompson all were named to the Scholar All-America team for the first time as Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds have won the Scholar All-America team title three times in program history, in 2011 with a GPA of 3.419, in 2015 with a GPA of 3.482 and in 2017 with a GPA of 3.497. In total, 345 student-athletes from across NCAA Division II were individually honored this year. In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-America Team, he must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.00 for those who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the season, the dates of competition stipulation was removed from this year's qualifications.
