Hounds Fall Short in Shootout Against #2 Lions

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - A matchup of dynasties faced off on Thursday afternoon, the No. 1 UIndy women's lacrosse team (11-1, 5-1 GLVC) visited the No. 2-ranked Lindenwood Lions (11-0, 6-0) for what was considered one of the biggest contests of the season in Division II. Only one team could maintain an unblemished record at the end of the game at Hunter Stadium, and the Lions emerged on top against the Hounds on a final score of 12-10.

INS & OUTS
Despite giving up the first goal to Lindenwood, the Greyhounds were able to seemingly play one step ahead of the Lions through halfway in the first half of the contest. Sarah Klein emerged as the team's aggressor in the first 18 minutes of game time, the sophomore slammed a pair of goals to help the Hounds maintain a one goal, 4-3 lead. After Lindenwood denied the next couple shots, the Lions knocked down UIndy with five-straight unanswered scores with two minutes left in the first half of play. Peyton Romig would sway the momentum with two seconds left in the half, moving the game to a four-goal deficit off of a free position goal for UIndy.

The Hounds came out the second half pacing the contest, Abigail Lagos and Lauryn Hardoy reaching the back of the net in the first 10 minutes to bring the game back within one. The two giants would deal blows to each other back and forth all the way until the end, UIndy finding another opportunity to knock in two-straight scores from Romig and Grace Gunneson to keep the game within reach. Their run would be too little, too late as the Lions would score the final goal with three minutes left in the game, holding the margin to two.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- UIndy was able to hold the fourth-best team assisting team in DII to only one-on-one matchups, the Lions not registering an assist against the Hounds.
- Riley McClure earned a season-high seven draw controls against Lindenwood, collecting a team-high in loose balls from the circle.
- The Greyhounds' 32 shots continues their streak of 30 or more shots in every game this season.

UP NEXT
