UIndy Extends Run of Dominance at GLVC Women’s Golf Championships

FISHERS, Ind. – The UIndy women's golf team extended its impressive streak of GLVC Championships Sunday, hoisting the conference trophy for the ninth consecutive time and 14th overall. The Greyhounds (304-307-304) topped the 15-team field by a convincing 29 strokes, as four Hounds garnered All-GLVC accolades by finishing T-5 or better.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at The Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in nearby Fishers, Ind.

Playing in her final GLVC Championships, UIndy all-timer Pilar Echeverria (75-77-73) made a late bid at a second straight individual medal at the conference tournament. The four-time All-American birdied both the 16th and 17th hole on Sunday but ultimately came one stroke shy of tying her rival and friend Emma Thorngern (73-76-75) of Missouri-St. Louis.

Echeverria would settle for second to lead a parade of Hounds on the leaderboard. Sophomore Hunter Nugent (75-74-79) finished at +12 to take third, senior Anna Kramer (79-77-76) finished in fourth place at +16, and junior Cailyn Henderson (78-80-76) shot +18 to place fifth.

Just behind them was junior Elyse Stasil (76-79-80), who just missed all-conference accolades by tying for sixth.

UP NEXT
UIndy now awaits the announcement of the 2012 NCAA DII Women's Golf Championships field tomorrow. The Hounds earned an automatic bid with their championship this week and will find out who will join them at the East Super Regional at Prairie View Golf Club in nearby Carmel, Ind., May 3-5.

SATURDAY RECAP
The Hounds extended their lead at the 2021 GLVC Championships on Saturday with a second-round team score of 307, outpacing second-place Missouri-St. Louis by 17 strokes.

Two Greyhounds found themselves in the top three with 18 holes, including co-leader Hunter Nugent (+5).

FRIDAY RECAP
The Hounds topped the team leaderboard with a first-round 304 – 15 strokes ahead of second-place Maryville.

Competing in her final GLVC Championships, reigning conference medalist Pilar Echeverria shot -1 over the final seven holes Friday to enter the clubhouse in a tie for third at +3.

Right there with her is sophomore Hunter Nugent, who conversely is playing in her first conference tournament. After COVID canceled the 2020 event, Nugent made her GLVC debut Friday with a three-over 75, tying Echeverria in third to sit two back of leader Emma Thorngren of Missouri-St. Louis.

All five of the Hounds would end up in the top 10 through 18 holes. Junior Elyse Stasil shot even par on the back nine to sit in sixth at +4, junior Cailyn Henderson is tied for seventh at +6, while senior Anna Kramer finds herself in a four-way tie for ninth at +7.
