Hounds Finish Season with National Quarterfinal Appearance

DEARBORN, Mich.  – The UIndy women's golf team completed yet another fantastic season Friday at the NCAA DII Championships. The Greyhounds earned a spot in the national quarterfinals before falling the Dallas Baptist, 3-1-1. The Hounds won an amazing eight of 10 tournaments in 2020-21, and their performance on the biggest stage extended their nation-leading streak of top-five-or-better National finishes at top seven.

The Greyhounds had a tough draw in front of them in Friday's quarterfinal, as they were paired up with Golfstat's No. 1 team in Dallas Baptist and its three First Team All-Americans. UIndy would manage one and a half points of the five available, as DBU was able to move on to the semifinals.

Senior Anna Kramer (74) never trailed in her quarterfinal pairing, earning the Hounds' lone head-to-head win by outshooting All-American Hanna Harrison by three strokes. Junior Elyse Stasil (81) earned a half point for the Hounds by tying her matchup with Julia Garcia.

Sophomore Hunter Nugent shot the lowest round for UIndy on Friday, but her one-over 73 could not best the 71 carded by DBU's Jaycie Stewart.

Additionally, the day saw the final collegiate round for Pilar Echeverria. The all-time great finished her UIndy career with nearly every school record and this week earned an unprecedented fifth All-America First Team award.

THURSDAY RECAP
The UIndy women's golf team earned a spot Thursday in one of four quarterfinal matches. Led by national runner-up Pilar Echeverria, the Greyhounds finished 54 holes of stroke play in fourth place with team scores of 309-290-304.

The format shifts to a medal/match play for the remaining quarterfinals, semifinals and final. The Hounds will be matched up with fifth-seeded Dallas Baptist tomorrow morning. Both squads' five players will be paired up in twos, with the lowest 18-hole score from each pair earning one point for their team. The first team to three points will advance to the national semifinals tomorrow afternoon.

Senior Pilar Echeverria (71-71-70) added to an already unparalleled resume with her performance in stroke play. She secured individual runner-up status by finishing at -4, a full seven strokes ahead of third place and just two back of medalist Helen Kreuzer (71-71-68) of Lynn University.

The remaining four Hounds finished between +15 and +20. Junior Cailyn Henderson shared 26th place, one shot ahead of sophomore Hunter Nugent in 28th. Senior Anna Kramer landed in 31st while junior Elyse Stasil settled at 42nd place among 72 of the nation's best golfers.

WEDNESDAY RECAP
Bolstered by another under-par round by now-co-leader Pilar Echeverria, the UIndy women's golf team (+23) jumped three spots into third place at the 2021 NCAA DII Championships, held at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich. Just 18 holes remain in stroke play, with the top eight teams advancing to the medal/match-play quarterfinals on Friday.

Echeverria engineered her second straight round of 71 and now shares first place with Lynn's Helen Kreuzer at -2. The Guatemala City native strung together four birdies over one five-hole stretch to help her remain under par. She will be in contention Thursday to became the program's third individual national championship.

Elsewhere, a number of Greyhounds improved their scores Wednesday as UIndy finished at +2 as a team. Junior Cailyn Henderson moved up nine spots on the individual leaderboard, carding a one-over 73 in round two to settle into a tie for 20th. Senior Anna Kramer (+11, T-28th) and junior Elyse Stasil (+12, T-35th) also made upward moves today, highlighted by the latter's even-par 72. Sophomore Hunter Nugent is also at +12 to share 35th with Stasil.

UIndy will be in the final groups for Thursday's final round of stroke play and will be pairing up with team-leader Limestone (+10) and second-place Lynn (+14). Tee times will start at 9:22 a.m. ET. Follow live results here.

TUESDAY RECAP
Senior Pilar Echeverria fired a one-under 71 Tuesday to open the 2021 NCAA DII Championships, leading the Greyhounds into sixth place after 18 holes at the year's biggest tournament. With the Hounds teeing off from hole No. 10, Echeverria shook off a couple of earlier bogeys to shoot three-under over her final 15 holes, including a two-under 34 on the front nine. The two-time DII Player of the Year is just one stroke back of leader Camilia Madariaga (-2) of Lynn.

Sophomore Hunter Nugent put together a late charge of her own, birdying two of her final four holes to climb to 25th at +6. Regional-medalist Cailyn Henderson is one back of Nugent in a 10-way tie for 29th, while Anna Kramer (+9) and Elyse Stasil (+12) are tied for 45th and 62nd, respectively.
