#2 Hounds Overthrow #1 Lions in Inaugural GLVC Title

LEBANON, Ill. - After falling in a heartbreaking 12-10 contest just 10 days ago, the No. 2 UIndy women's lacrosse team (14-1, 6-1 GLVC) worked their way to the 2021 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Tournament Championship game on Sunday afternoon to take on a rematch against No. 1 Lindenwood (13-1, 7-0). After 60 minutes of action between the best two programs in Division II clashing against each other, the Greyhounds emerged as the 2021 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Champions on a final score of 12-9.

INS & OUTS
It didn't take long for the Greyhounds to put themselves on the scoreboard, Quinn Malcolm netting the game's first goal from Grace Gunneson after only 60 seconds of action. Gunneson would continue a hot streak to get the Hounds' offense rolling early, the senior slammed a pair of her own goals as part of an unanswered three-goal streak to boost UIndy's lead to three. The Lions would fight back in the second part of the first half as they would tie the game at five's in the final minute of the half. Abigail Lagos would put the Greyhounds' on top in the final 30 seconds of the first half, the Windham, N.H., native putting the score 6-5 in UIndy's favor off a free position shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Cassidy King would put in work for the Greyhounds as the goal keeper, the junior tallying five saves to halt Lindenwood's offense.

Sarah Klein and company got the UIndy offense rolling out of the gates in the second half, the GLVC Freshman of the Year scoring the first two goals in a four-score, unanswered streak in the half's first nine minutes. The team's defense stonewalled the Lion's offense during that timespan, only allowing one shot while the Hounds' snagged the first five draw controls of the half. With a five-goal lead in the final 20 minutes of game time, Lindenwood started to pile on the shots to try and close the gap. The Greyhounds wouldn't allow the margin to get any lower than three goals, Gunneson and Lagos each making their way to the back of the net anytime the Lions would garner momentum. With their first-half lead being so high for Division II's top defense, the final buzzer crowned UIndy with the first-ever GLVC Women's Lacrosse Championship trophy.
