Hounds Head to NCAA Championship Match After 4-1 Win Over CSU

SURPRISE, Ariz. - Nikol Alekseeva jumped into the air, her teammates bolted onto the court and into her arms. They had done it, a perfect season (23-0) heading into the national championship match. After a 4-1 win over No. 10 Columbus State in the semifinal, the Greyhounds advance to Friday's final with a chance to make program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds set the tone in doubles, sweeping in two matches, the first of which won by the No. 1 doubles team in the country, Nikol Alekseeva and Anna Novikova. With the 6-2 victory, the pair are just one doubles match away from a perfect record this season. Seniors Alina Kislitskaya and Kristina Lagoda were up to the challenge as well, securing the first point as by capturing a 6-4 win to move the Hounds into singles. Sofia Sharonova and Maria Solnyshkina did not finish their match.

The energy level rose for both teams, with the Cougars answering to each UIndy chant. They would fight tooth and nail until the last point.

Kislitskaya continued to show her teeth on the court for the Hounds with a 6-1, 6-2 win to bring it to 2-1. Solynshkina kept the fire burning for the Hounds winning in duplicate sets 6-2, 6-2. Head Coach Malik Tabet punched both fists into the air with glee as the Hounds went up 3-1.

The No. 1 singles player in the country, Alekseeva, would take it on herself to clinch it, replicating Solynshkina's two set win with her own 6-2, 6-2 win.

UP NEXT
The season's final Division II match, the NCAA DII Championship final, awaits the Hounds tomorrow. They'll take on second-seeded and No. 2-ranked Barry University at 11 p.m. ET.
