Greyhounds Battle to Draw with Tritons

ST. LOUIS – The University of Indianapolis saw their trip to St. Louis to face the Tritions of Missouri St.-Louis end in a 1-1 tie. The Greyhounds stalemate is the fifth of the Greyhounds season, moving the Hounds to an even 5-5-5 on the season, with only one match remaining before conference play.

INS AND OUTS
Offensive pressure and ball control was the name of the game for the Greyhounds throughout the entire contest. Early on the Hounds developed offensive opportunity after offensive opportunity, taking four shots in the first 13 minutes of play. Kiki Sauceda and her physical style of play was able to help elevate the Hounds to their biggest opportunity thus far, a penalty at the 12:37 mark in the contest. Sauceda, who entered the contest 2-3 on penalties, made it 3-4 with a perfect shot to the top left of the net, giving UIndy at 1-0 lead.

It was as if the one goal deficit invigorated the Tritons, as they went on an offensive tear, testing freshman goalkeeper MaKenna Nickens and the young back line of the Hounds with seven shots to end the half, none on goal. The defense of UMSL also limited the Hounds time on the ball, with the Hounds only getting two more shots in the first half.

UIndy opened the second half aggressively as the did the first half, controlling the tempo of the contest. However, a ball placed well inside the Greyhounds box resulted in a booming shot by UMSL's Ayanna Weissenfluh. After that point the Greyhounds stayed active on the Tritons side of the pitch, with Maria Herrero recording three more shots, two of which on goal. A solid defensive effort by the Tritons keeper Paige Schwartz kept the Hounds off the scoreboard and kept the score tied at 1-1 at the clock hit zero.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Despite the pressure, the Greyhounds only had two corner kicks in the contest, UMSL also had two.
