Hounds Best Lakers to Cap Eventful Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS—The nationally-ranked UIndy swimming & diving program capped a hectic weekend of action with a dual sweep of visiting Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon in the Ruth Lilly Center. After competing at Purdue Friday evening, the Greyhounds returned home to top the Lakers 155-143 on the women's side and 178-115 on the men's.

The Hounds won three of the four relay races, including hitting early NCAA provisional in both 400 free relays. The thrilling final event saw the quartet of Jeron Thompson, Diego Mas, Nick Quintero and Joao Silva out-touch the Lakers by less than a half second in the 400 FR.

All-American Kaitlyn McCoy won an impressive four events. After leading the Hounds to victory in the 400 medley relay, she went on to win the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM.

Senior Johanna Buys anchored the women's 400 FR victory after winning both the 50 and 100 free races with NCAA B-cut times. The UIndy men went 1-2-3 in the 50 free, with both Mas and Silva improving their B times.

Pittsburgh-transfer and Ukraine native Serge Ahadzhanian won both the 100 and 200 fly, with fellow-flyer Kael Yorke taking second in the former with a B-cut time. Liki Prema captured wins in the breaststroke events. Each of the first four swimmers to touch the wall in the men's 100 breast were Greyhounds, with both Prema and Brayden Cole notching B-cuts.

The distance events saw Emilia Colti-Dumitrescu take the women's 1000 free and Cedric Buessing the men's 500.

Bartek Swiderski won the 100 back and the 200 IM, while Andrea Gomez touched first in the 200 fly.

The divers earned big points as well. Julio Osuna and Jason Lenzo took first and second, respectively, on both heights, with Osuna's 383.92 on the 3-meter good for one of the day's highlights. On the women's side, Mikaela Starr took first on the 3-meter and second on the 1-mteter.

The Grand Valley men are ranked sixth in the CSCAA Division II Dual Meet Rankings, while the Laker women are ranked 18th.
