Greyhounds Drop Thrilling League Tilt to Hawks

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team (11-7, 4-3 GLVC) dropped a tough five-set contest to Rockhurst (12-4, 5-2 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon, as the Hawks narrowly escaped in the 15-13 finale.

Claire Morris finished with 50 assists and 20 digs, the first Greyhounds with those numbers since Maggie Gibson on Oct. 16, 2015.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds and Hawks traded sets on Saturday, before the visitors ultimately pulled off a victory in the fifth frame. The teams were tied an astounding 40 times and changed leads in 17 instances throughout the afternoon.

UIndy attacked at a .429 clip or better on three occasions, including its wins in the even sets. Lauren Cullison tallied eight of her 17 kills in those games before finishing with a .277 hitting percentage. Morris made eight of her 20 scoops in the third, while MaKenna Barnhart matched her teammate in the category. The senior libero would end the day with 20 digs, posting her fifth match of the season with at least that many.

There were seven ties in the final set alone, while Hannah Sabotin finished four of her 13 kills during the race to 15. UIndy led 13-12 in the waning moments, but the Hawks rallied off three straight kills to earn the road win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Morris dished out 50 assists in her second consecutive match, adding a pair of kills and one service ace to her impressive stat line.
- Joining Sabotin with 13 kills was Grace Hegwood, who recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a 10-piece in the digs category.
- After totaling nine blocks on Friday, Sabotin tacked on another six against the Hawks, including two solo stops.
- Alex Equihua provided key backline defense off the bench, finishing with 11 digs.

MORE NOTES
Barnhart continues to inch up the program's all-time digs list, as she sits just 103 scoops away from Amy Oldenburg in third place.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Jason Reed: "It was a great match; it sucks someone had to lose it. I'd like us to play a little more aggressive in the fifth set, but we can take that as a learning piece moving forward and encourage them to really go for it."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will make the short trip to Hammond, Ind., next weekend for three contests at the annual Midwest Regional Crossover event. The schedule will be released later this weekend.
