OWENSBORO, Ky.— The seventh-ranked UIndy softball team wrapped up a productive trip to Owensboro, Ky., with two more wins Sunday, routing Davis & Elkins, 16-0, and topping in-region Trevecca Nazarene, 8-3. The results capped a perfect 4-0 stay at the Blue Bridge Battle, upping the Greyhounds' win streak to eight and their overall record to 11-1.
Â
GAME 1 | UIndy 16, D&E 0 (5 innings)
The Greyhounds absolutely blitzed the overmatched Senators, racking up season highs in both runs and bases on balls while hitting .407 as a team. UIndy's 10 walks were good for its highest single-game total in three full years.
Â
Meanwhile, All-America pitcher
Kenzee Smith kept missing bats, notching a one-hitter in her fourth consecutive shutout, striking out seven and walking one. Smith has not allowed a run in her last 19 1/3 innings pitcher.
Â
Lexy Rees had herself a day at the plate. The Greyhound catcher twice came to the dish with the bases loaded and twice drove in three runs. Her six ribbies were the most by a Hound in a decade, joining another UIndy catcher – Cori Eckerle in March of 2012 – in the elite club.
Â
Sydnee Perry added a two-run double in the first inning, while
Dominique Proctor turned a rare trick with two pinch-hit, RBI doubles.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 8, TNU 3
The Trojans, a team the Hounds shut out earlier this season, struck first with two runs in the top of the second. It marked the first time the Greyhounds trailed in nine games.
Â
The tables turned quickly, however, as UIndy answered with four tallies in the bottom of the second and later tacked on runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames. Perry,
Emily O'Connor and
Tara Williams all had RBI hits, while
Gianni Iannantone and
Maddy Stout each coaxed a hit by pitch.
Â
Haylie Foster got the complete-game win in the circle, allowing two earned runs and striking out four in seven innings. She is now 6-0 on the year.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds recently added a trip to The Mountain State to their schedule. UIndy will travel to West Virginia State on Saturday, March 5 for a doubleheader versus the Yellow Jackets.
