GREENSBORO, N.C.- The University of Indianapolis swimming & diving programs capped off a stellar week of competition at the 2022 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday night with both teams finishing highly in the final team standings.

The women's squad collected its best finish in program history by ending as the runner-up team, corralling 423 total points to sit behind national champion Queens (NC) who notched 536.5 points. The men managed a third-place finish for the third straight time after earning 413 points to fall behind runner-up Drury (522 points) and champion Queens (607.5 points).

In total, UIndy tallied 63 All-America and 31 All-America Honorable Mention honors while garnering four event championships through the four days of competition.
 
"Our swimmers and divers had a great week", said head coach Brent Noble. "This is the best nationals meet UIndy has ever had, so we are thrilled with the way we finished the season."

SATURDAY
Beginning on the women's side, the 400 free relay quartet of Johanna Buys, Leticia Vaselli, Marizel van Jaarsveld, and Krystal Caylor managed a runner-up finishing time of 3:20.86 to earn All-America honors and secure the eventual second-place team finish for the Hounds.
 
Van Jaarsveld capped off a tremendous four-day run with a third-place finish in the women's 200 breast. In the prelims of the race, van Jaarsveld set a new program record with a time of 2:13.73. However, she touched the wall in an even faster 2:13.33 to improve her record-breaking mark and earn All-America honors in the process.
 
Other notable day four performances saw Kaitlyn McCoy take to the pool in the championship final of the 200 back, where she collected All-America honors with her fourth-place finishing mark of 1:57.36. In the 100 free, her teammate Caylor was also an All-American honoree with a fourth-place finishing time of her own at 49.81.
 
For the men, Cedric Buessing capped off his first-ever NCAA Championships with a third-place finish in the 1650 free at 15:13.86 for All-America honors.
 
Liki Prema was the lone Greyhound in the 200 breast championship final, where he brought home All-America honors with his eighth-place finishing time of 1:58.57. In the 100 free, his teammate Joao Silva captured All-America Honorable Mention honors with a runner-up finishing time in the consolation final of 43.51. With this swim, Silva is now the new program record holder in the event.
 
The final race of the championships was the men's 400 free relay, which saw UIndy bring home a fourth-place finish and a new program record. The team of Jeron Thompson, Diego Mas, Silva, and Victor Antonon finished in a time of 2:54.94 to collect All-America honors.

FRIDAY
Before the nightcap even kicked off, the Greyhounds had three different swimmers eclipse new program records in the prelims. Marizel van Jaarsveld (1:01.33 in the 100 breast), Jan Zuchowicz (52.68 in the 100 breast), and Jackson Vanwanzeele (1:46.48 in the 200 fly) all added an outstanding start to the day which they hoped to carry over into the finals.
 
Van Jaarsveld took her finals performance to a higher level and broke her own prelims program record in the women's 100 breast. The two-time 2022 national champion swam a faster 1:00.32 to finish the race in second for All-America honors.
 
Zuchowicz also surpassed his prelims program record in the men's 100 breast in his finals race which also landed him a second-place finish. He tallied a time of 52.41 to just fall short of a national title by .06 while his teammate Liki Prema was fourth in the event at 52.79. Both swimmers were tabbed as All-Americans for their performance.
 
With the new program record under his name, Vanwanzeele joined his teammate Kael Yorke in the consolation final of the men's 200 fly. The trend of high-level swimming continued with Vanwanzeele also producing a faster finals race and breaking his own prelim mark. He managed to finish second in the consolation final with a time of 1:46.40 while Yorke was seventh in the consolation final at 1:47.89. Both are tabbed as All-America Honorable Mention selections.
 
The dynamic trio of Julio Osuna, Cade Hammond, and Jason Lenzo took to the diving board in the men's 3M diving event this evening. Osuna, who battled his way back with a couple of incredible dives to end the session, tallied his second runner-up spot at this year's championships with his score of 526.15 in the event. Hammond (fourth at 506.40) and Lenzo (sixth at 467.75) join Osuna in earning All-America honors and continue the strong diving tradition built by diving head coach Dave McKown.
 
Other notable day three performances saw Kaitlyn McCoy collect All-America honors and a fifth-place finish in the women's 100 back at 54.15. Sebastian Wenk was also tabbed an All-American in the men's 500 free with his seventh-place finishing time of 4:28.32. Finally, in the women's 800 free relay, the quartet of Brynhildur Traustadottir, van Jaarsveld, McCoy, and Krystal Caylor corralled a seventh-place finish and All-America honors at 7:24.31.

THURSDAY
Marizel van Jaarsveld was crowned the national champion in the women's 400 IM while the freshman duo of Kamila Podsiadlo (women's 3M diving) and Cedric Buessing (men's 400 IM) each tallied runner-up finishes to headline day two of the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships for the University of Indianapolis.
 
Along with the presence on the podium, the Hounds managed to break three program records at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday. After day two, the women are in second in the team standings while the men hold down third.
 
Van Jaarsveld geared up for the 400 IM championship final alongside her teammate Andrea Gomez. Despite a close beginning, van Jaarsveld pulled away from the field late and easily won by over three seconds at 4:14.06. Not only does she earn All-America honors in the event while also breaking the program record, she has now claimed two individual national titles through two days of competition. In her first NCAA Championships, Gomez earns All-America honors with her fifth-place mark in the race at 4:20.41. Kaitlyn McCoy was tabbed as an All-America Honorable Mention honoree with her 4:24.17 and 10th place finish.

On the diving board, the women's 3M event was on tap with Kamila Podsiadlo and Mikaela Starr each competing for the Greyhounds. Battling tough against a highly competitive field loaded with upperclassmen and the defending national champion, the freshman Podsiadlo tallied a second-place total score of 465.95 to earn All-America honors in her first NCAA Championships meet. Starr also garnered All-America honors after she ended in sixth with a final total of 426.40.
 
Already with a silver medal yesterday, Buessing rolled out another strong individual race in the men's 400 IM and earned the runner-up spot alongside All-America honors after a 3:48.40 performance. Unfortunately for Buessing, he faced a tough field of competition as the winning swimmer ahead of him swam an incredible race to break both the NCAA DII and meet record.
 
A new UIndy program record was set in the men's 100 back when Kael Yorke tallied a time of 46.86 in the preliminaries. He managed to go on and notch All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the finals at 47.32. Bartek Swiderski was tabbed an All-America honorable mention honoree in the event with his 10th place finish (47.26 in the consolation final).
 
Another new men's program record was achieved when the quartet of Jeron Thompson, Jan Zuchowicz, Yorke, and Victor Antonon earned All-America honors and a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay at 3:09.78. This time breaks the previous record that was set at this year's GLVC Championships.
 
Other notable day two performances saw Krystal Caylor bring home a bronze and All-America honors after touching the wall in third place at 1:48.84 in the women's 200 free. To end the night, the 400 medley relay team of McCoy, Julia Simioni, Johanna Buys and Caylor also corralled bronze with a 3:40.52 finals time for All-America honors.

WEDNESDAY
Marizel van Jaarsveld (women's 200 IM) and Cade Hammond (men's 1M Diving) were each crowned individual national champions, while the women's 200 free relay captured the title and beat out a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference foes in the process.
 
Van Jaarsveld earned her second consecutive title in the 200 IM after swimming a winning time of 1:58.91 this evening. Not only does she earn All-America honors, it also marks the third time in her UIndy career she has won an individual national crown. Kaitlyn McCoy, who was last year's runner-up in the event, tallied a solid third-place finishing time of 2:00.82 for her own All-America honors.

Heading into the finals, Hammond, Julio Osuna, and Jason Lenzo were the top three divers in the men's 1M diving event. Nothing changed in the finals, as Hammond battled his way past his teammates to his first career national title with a winning score of 525.20. It marks the first time in program history a Greyhound has won a national title crown in the event. Osuna fell just on the heels of Hammond with his score of 520.55 while Lenzo filled out third place at a score of 454.80. All three divers earn All-America nods.

Entering as the defending national champions, the women's 200 free relay was set to battle a highly competitive field which featured the likes of GLVC rivals in Lindenwood and Drury. The Hounds delivered in a big way, as the quartet of Johanna Buys, Leticia Vaselli, Andrea Paaske and Krystal Caylor outlasted the field and defended its title with a winning time of 1:31.08 for All-America honors. Lindenwood took second in the event while Drury was third.

Other notable day one action on the women's side saw the 200 medley relay open the evening with a fourth-place finish at a time of 1:39.69. Not only did this earn All-America honors and 30 team points, it also set a new program record in the process. Julia Magierowska, van Jaarsveld, Buys, and Vaselli have etched their name atop the UIndy record book. Buys took to the pool individually in the 50 free and corralled a third-place mark of 22.75. With this finish, she is now a back-to-back All-American in the race.

Over on the men's side, the Greyhounds opened the night at third-place in the 200 medley relay to garner 32 team points. Jeron Thompson, Jan Zuchowicz, Kael Yorke, and Diego Mas faced an outstanding field and rolled out a 1:25.22 final time to earn All-America honors.
 
The GLVC Swimmer of the Year Cedric Buessing entered the pool in the 1000 free and rattled off a runner-up finish in his first-ever NCAA Championship meet. The freshman from Germany touched the wall in a finals time of 9:03.42 to garner All-America honors for himself.
 
Capping off day one, the men's 200 free relay added a bronze medal for UIndy and a new program record with a time of 1:17.46. Thompson, Diego Mas, Joao Silva, and Victor Antonon all earn All-America honors for their performance and now sit atop the program record books.
