WINTER HAVEN, Fla.— The No. 4 UIndy softball team opened its annual trip to the Sunshine State with a pair of wins at THE Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla. The Greyhounds bested a pair of Charger teams, run-ruling the Dominican College Chargers in six innings, 10-0, before slipping by the University of New Haven Chargers, 2-0.
Â
GAME 1 | UIndy 10, Dominican (6 innings)
In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, the Hounds did not get on the board until catcher
Lexy Rees' fourth-inning solo homer broke a scoreless. UIndy pushed across one more run in the fifth on an RBI single from
Haylie Foster, and then proceeded to blow it open in the sixth inning.
Â
UIndy delivered eight hits in the terminal inning, with
Dominique Proctor book ending the action herself. The sophomore out of Greenwood led off the frame with a pinch-hit single and later ended it nine batters later with her first career grand slam.
Â
In the circle,
Kenzee Smith authored yet another shutout – her fifth already this season. The hometown product allowed just five hits and struck out nine to move to 8-1 on the year.
Â
Reigning GLVC Player of the Week
Emily O'Connor had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs, while H. Foster finished 3-for-3 with a run and a ribbie.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 2, New Haven 0
Though the bats cool a bit in game two, the pitching remained hot. H. Foster (9-0) moved to the circle and shut down the Chargers with six-plus scoreless innings. The very first batter finagled a seeing-eye single, marking the final hit of the day for the New Haven.
Â
When Foster got in some trouble in the seventh, Smith returned to the rubber and retired the side to notch her first collegiate save.
Â
Proctor was once again in the mix offensively. After garnering her first career start in game two, she followed a
Sydnie Foster walk with a single to right. Freshman
Megan Nichols would later drive them both home with a single of her own.

UP NEXT
