INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 2 University of Indianapolis women's lacrosse team defeated the No. 10 Grand Valley State Lakers on the turf of Key Stadium on Friday night. Both ranked teams brought physicality, skill, and an abundance of seeming electric energy to the field leading to a seat gripping first three quarters before a Greyhounds run secured the 14-8 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams carried a 2-0 record when the clock began ticking down on Friday afternoon, and it was the Lakers who made a statement early by scoring three back-to-back goals over the Hounds who in the last second answered back with a
Jess Soenen goal.
GVSU wouldn't go down easy, and the Hounds refused to let that dull their game. With another two Laker goals, UIndy was down five-to-one in the beginning of the second quarter. Then came the Hounds, scoring four straight goals within six minutes of each other – they had tied it up. An
Abigail Lagos goal just under the three-minute mark put the Hounds up by one heading into the half.
After a back-and-forth third quarter, the Hounds scored four goals to call game, sinking the Lakers and extending their record to 3-0.
Abigail Lagos scored five goals in landing eight shots on goal, while
Sarah Klein had four goals and two assists.
Grand Valley was led by Molly Bursinger and Maddy Champagne who had a pair of goals each.
