INDIANAPOLIS—The No. 5 UIndy softball team notched a pair of polar-opposite wins versus GLVC-foe William Jewell Saturday at Baumgartner Field. The Greyhounds grinded out a 1-0 victory in a pitching duel in the opener before putting on a hit parade in a 13-5 blowout in game two.

GAME 1 | UIndy 1, Jewell 0
Facing some chilly temps in an earlier-than-normal start, the Greyhounds got all the offense they would need on a single swing from
Lexy Rees. The junior catcher broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth, leading off the inning with a towering shot to dead center.
Â
Starting pitcher
Kenzee Smith (13-3) took care of the rest, finishing off her seventh shutout of the season. She held the Cardinals to just three hits – all singles – while striking out five and walking three.
Â
Jocelyn Calvin and
Sydnie Foster each went 2 for 2 with a pair of singles, with the latter adding a stolen base.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 13, Jewell 5 (5 innings)
The bats came alive in the capper, as the Hounds racked up a season-high 20 hits on the way to run-ruling their guests in five innings. The final hit total was good for the team's highest tally in a decade – a 25-hit performance at Illinois Springfield on March 3, 2012.
Â
Rees extended her power surge in the fifth inning with her second solo shot of the day. She added an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to put the Hounds up eight runs and seal the win.
Â
Emily O'Connor delivered the go-ahead hit, as her solo homer in the fourth put the Hounds up for good.
Dominique Proctor continued for breakout sophomore campaign with three hits, including a home run in the third, to go with three runs and two RBIs.
Â
Rees, O'Connor and Proctor all had three hits, as did outfielders
Sydnie Foster and
Megan Nichols.
Kamrie Foster came on as a defensive replacement in the top of the fourth and made the most of her two late-game plate appearances with two singles and two RBIs.
Tara Williams added two hits and scored twice, while Calvin had a single and two walks.
Â
In the circle,
Haylie Foster went the distance to move to 13-1 on the season, striking out seven in five innings of work.
