Softball Completes Perfect Weekend With One-Sided Wins Versus Truman

INDIANAPOLIS—The No. 5 UIndy softball team made it four wins in four games on the weekend, sweeping a Sunday home doubleheader versus Truman State University Sunday. After sweeping William Jewell yesterday, the Greyhounds took down the Bulldogs by scores of 9-0 and 15-1, both in five innings.

Both Maddy Stout (pictured) and Sydnee Perry did not record an out Sunday, combining for six hits, seven runs, six RBIs and two walks.

GAME 1 | UIndy 9, Truman 0 (5 innings)
Behind yet another stellar performance from ace pitcher Kenzee Smith, the Hounds broke it open with a six-spot in the third inning. Lexy Rees and Emily O'Connor started the rally with a single and a walk, respectively, before Dominique Proctor started the merry-go-round with a two-run double to deep center. The Hounds sprinkled in two more walks in the inning, while Perry and Stout added RBI singles.

Smith improved to 14-3 after allowing just two hits and striking out five in four scoreless innings. Freshman Jayden Casebolt came on to pitch the fifth in her first career appearance at Baumgartner Field. The Newburgh, Ind., native notched a strikeout and allowed one hit in an otherwise-uneventful outing.

GAME 2 | UIndy 15, Truman 0 (5 innings)
UIndy jumped all over Truman with an eyebrow-raising 11-run first inning. The outburst matched a season high set at McKendree on March 10.

The first four baserunners reaches without the ball leaving the infield, with UIndy going on to coax five walks and a hit by pitch in the opening frame to match its hit total of six for the inning.

Rees delivered to biggest blow, lifting the ball over the centerfield fence for her second grand slam of the season. Proctor had two hits in the inning, while Jocelyn Calvin added an RBI single and O'Connor a base-empty double.

Three Greyhounds toed the rubber in game two, with starter Haylie Foster (14-1) getting the win by blanking the 'Dogs for the minimum three innings. Audrey Sizemore and Amy Kaniewski tossed one inning apiece, combining three Ks.

Megan Nichols amassed two hits and a walk, while Tara Williams and Sydnie Foster each scored twice.

UP NEXT
The Hounds are set to embark on an eight-game road stretch, starting with a non-conference twin bill at Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 6.
