OWENSBORO, Ky.—The No. 5 UIndy softball team upped its win streak to six with a doubleheader sweep at Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday evening, downing the host Panthers by scores of 2-1 and 8-0. Freshman
Megan Nichols had four hits and three runs on the night.
Â
Thursday evening's results marked the third and fourth wins over the Panthers this season, as UIndy defeated them in the season opener and later at the Music City Invitational. The Greyhounds have now outscored KWC a combined 25-1 in four contests.

GAME 1 | UIndy 2, KWC 1
An RBI double from
Lexy Rees got the Hounds on the board in the top of the first, but it was a sacrifice fly from
Sydnee Perry in the top of the fifth that proved to be the difference. With the bases loaded and one out, the sophomore shortstop lifted a 2-2 pitch to left field, scoring
Emily O'Connor and breaking a 1-1 tie.
Â
Starting pitcher
Kenzee Smith (15-3) took care of the rest, retiring each of the final 12 batters she faced, including striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh. All told, she surrendered just two hits while striking out a dozen Panthers.
Â
Rees finished with two hits – both doubles, Nichols had a single and a run scored, while
Gianni Iannantone added a pinch-hit single in the seventh.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 8, KWC 0
The Hounds earned the sweep in convincing fashion, eventually turning a close game into a runaway with a combined six runs in the sixth and seventh innings. With game-two starter
Haylie Foster dealing in the circle, the UIndy offense finally broke it open with a two-run sixth and a four-spot in the seventh.
Â
Foster notched the shutout to move to 15-1 on the year. She allowed five hits and fanned 10 batters to record her first-ever double-digit strikeout total.
Â
The seventh-inning outburst featured a pair of dingers, with both
Dominique Proctor (solo shot) and O'Connor (3-run homer) going yard. Nichols led the team with three hits while
Tara Williams drove in two runs.
