Greyhounds Notch Another Sweep, Win Eighth Straight

BOLIVAR, Mo.—The No. 5-ranked UIndy softball team upped it win streak to eight with a doubleheader sweep at Southwest Baptist Saturday, downing the host Bearcats by scores of 11-3 and 8-1.

GAME 1 | UIndy 11, SBU 3 (5 innings)
Both teams delivered a flurry in the first. The score eventually settled at 3-3 after one inning, with Emily O'Connor and Tara Williams each notching early RBIs.

The game remained tied until a fourth-inning flex from the Hounds. Back-to-back RBI singles from Dominique Proctor and Megan Nichols got things rolling, while a three-run bomb from catcher Lexy Rees punctuated the rally.

UIndy tacked on three more in the fifth to run-rule the host Bearcats. Tara Williams provided the pop with a solo homer, while Hanna Burris and Proctor added a double and an RBI single, respectively.

Sophomore-ace Kenzee Smith earned the complete-game win to move to 16-3 for the season. She struck out nine batters and allowed three hits and just one walk.

All nine UIndy hitters finished with at least one run and one hit. Sydnee Perry went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.

FUN FACT
Rees' game-one homer gave her 10 for the season, making her just the fifth player in program history to record multiple double-digit home run seasons.

GAME 2 | UIndy 8, SBU 1
An RBI single from Emily O'Connor in the top of the first accounted for the first and only run of the game through five innings.

The UIndy lead stood at 1-0 until the top of the sixth when the Greyhounds lowered the hammer with a five-run rally. Grace Mosele opened the flood gates with a two-run triple, while Perry (RBI single) and Proctor (RBI double) piled on. Nichols made it all but official with a two-run bomb, good for her first collegiate home run.

Super-senior Gianni Iannantone tacked on a leadoff homer in the seventh.

Game-two starter Haylie Foster added a win to her already-impressive pitching record, upping her mark to 16-1 on the season. She allowed just three hits and three walks on the day while fanning nine.

UP NEXT
The Greyhound wrap up the weekend with a doubleheader at Rockhurst University Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
