Greyhounds National Championship Bound with Semifinal Win Over Adelphi

ST. CHARLES, MO - The University of Indianapolis women's lacrosse team avenged their lone loss of the regular season with an 11-6 win over Adelphi in the NCAA Semifinal on Friday night.  For the first time in program history, the Hounds will play for a national title.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first two goals of the game belonged to the Panthers but Sarah Klein and Christina Sato notched unassisted goals 34 seconds apart to even the score at two.  Adelphi netted one late to take a 3-2 lead after one.

The Hounds took advantage of an extra-man opportunity in the second with Quinn Malcolm netting the equalizer on the assist from Christina Sato.  Six minutes later the two connected again to give UIndy their first lead of the game.  The Panthers netted one late in the closing minutes to make it a 4-4 game at the break.

The defense shined in the third quarter, holding Adelphi scoreless the entire frame and into a 22-minute span.  UIndy outscored the Panthers 3-0 in the quarter behind a pair of goals from Sarah Klein and a dazzling behind the back goal from Quinn Malcolm.

The Panthers knocked on the door in the fourth, cutting the deficit to two with just over seven minutes remaining.  That momentum was halted by Abigail Lagos' lone goal of the game.  Peyton Romig added an insurance free position goal before Jess Soenen netted UIndy's final goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Peyton Romig paced the offense with four points off of two goals and two assists.  She was a perfect two-for-two on free position shots while adding seven draw controls.
- Quinn Malcolm and Sarah Klein both netted a hat trick while Christina Sato added three points off of one goal and two assists.
- Cassidy King picked up the win in net, making three saves in the second half.  Audrey Moran played the first half in net, also making three saves.
