EAST PEORIA, Ill.—After a thrilling 1-0 walkoff win versus Drury in the conference semifinals earlier in the day, the No.2-seed UIndy Greyhounds fell to 15th-ranked Southern Indiana by that same final score in the GLVC final Sunday evening. The top-seeded Screaming Eagles edged the No. 2 seed with an RBI double in the fifth, which proved to be the only run of the game.
Â
In a pitching matchup of All-GLVC First Team honorees, USI's Allie Goodin edged UIndy's
Kenzee Smith by the slimmest of margins to lift USI to its fifth GLVC title. Goodin allowed just two hits – a leadoff double by
Dominique Proctor and a fifth-inning single by
Sydnee Perry – on the way to the complete-game win.
Â
Meanwhile, Smith (25-6) pitched a total of 20 2/3 innings in two days at the GLVC tournament and was the hard-luck loser in the championship, giving up only three hits and striking out four.
Â
The Greyhounds, who came into the weekend as the Midwest Region's top-ranked club, await the announcement of the NCAA tournament field tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET on NCAA.com. The Hounds are all but assured their region-leading 14th consecutive NCAA Regional berth.

SEMIFINAL RECAP
The Hounds won an instant classic to move on to the GLVC final, downing third-seeded Drury, 1-0, in extra innings.
Jocelyn Calvin's fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth inning plated the game winning run as UIndy walked off with the semifinal win.
Â
Â
The Panthers put immediate pressure on the Hounds, as three of the game's first four batters reached to load the bases with one out. Facing a weather-forced single-elimination format, Head Coach
Melissa Frost made the early pitching change, relieving All-GLVC Second Teamer
Haylie Foster with ace
Kenzee Smith in the top of the first.
Â
Smith got the next two outs to escape the jam and went on to pitch a near-perfect 7 2/3 innings to eventually earn the win. She fanned 11 batters in the contest, while a fifth-inning walk provided Drury its only base runner after the initial frame.
Â
With the teams still locked in a 0-0 stalemate in the bottom of the eighth, super-senior
Hanna Burris managed a leadoff single to finally break up a no-hitter from newly-named GLVC Pitcher of the Year Kristina Bettis (23-4). Burris advanced to second on a sacrifice from
Sydnee Perry, moved to third on a passed ball, and crossed home plate with the game-winning run on Calvin's RBI.
