ROCHESTER, Mich.—Incoming UIndy sophomore Anci Dy capped a memorable week by winning the 106th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship, held at Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester, Mich. Anci earned the prestigious title on the fifth and final day of the lengthy tournament, besting her older sister Anika in a dramatic final match.
 
Dy added her name to a list of past champions that includes her UIndy teammate Anna Kramer (2020).
 
A native of Traverse City, Mich., Dy carved out a spot in the 32-woman match-play bracket, finishing 36 holes of stroke play at +7 to earn the fifth seed.
 
Dy won each of her first two matchups 2 & 1, besting Saginaw Valley's Mandy Ehrlich and Wisconsin-commit Kate Brody. She later took down Western Michigan golfer Alissa Fish by a convincing 4 & 2 score in Thursday afternoon's quarterfinal.
 
Dy played a total of 41 holes on Friday on the way to the championship, besting a pair of University of Michigan student-athletes in the process. In the morning semifinal, she erased a four-hole deficit after the turn and closed out Mikaela Schulz on the second extra hole.
 
That set up an all-Dy final, with Anci outlasting Anika in 21 holes. The younger Dy never trailed in the match, and finally earned the win thanks to a clutch par putt on the third extra hole.
 
Afterwards, Anci gave a shout out to UIndy head coach Brent Nicoson for helping her improve her game during her recently-completed freshman season.
 
Dy told GAM News of Nicoson: "He sharpened what (teaching professional) Scott Wilson gave me and helped me in the player-on-the-course aspect.
 
"It's been a long time since I felt really good about my game in the summer. This is one of those tournaments on the bucket list, so it's really cool to start off my summer this way. Then to play Anika in the final match and get her in the end. It makes it all seem even better."
