Greyhounds Win on MLK Day as Bingham Reaches Milestone

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team (15-2, 7-2 GLVC) won its ninth consecutive game on Monday evening, downing Maryville (10-7, 3-6 GLVC) by a score of 79-53. Following a dominating second half, the Greyhounds held their opponent to under 60 points for the eighth time this season.

Jesse Bingham became the 44th student-athlete in program history to score 1,000 career points, the first to do so since Cory Miller Jr. last season.

Leading all scorers, however, was Bruno Williams, who finished with 16 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds opened the second half on an 18-3 run over the first seven-and-a-half minutes, building a commanding 52-35 advantage over the Saints. Despite leading by just a couple points heading into the break, five different Greyhounds – including David Ejah and Kendrick Tchoua – fueled the charge over the stretch.

The story, as has been the case much of the winter, was the UIndy defense. Limiting the Saints to 23.3 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes, the Greyhounds forced eight second-half turnovers to lead by as many as 27 and cruise the rest of the way.

Bingham reached the milestone at the 3:27 mark in the second half, slamming home an assist from Josiah Tynes on the fast break. The redshirt-sophomore shot 5-for-9 from the floor after halftime, including a perfect effort from the charity stripe on four attempts.

Jarvis Walker posted 11 points off the bench, adding three helpers and three rebounds in 19+ minutes.

 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bingham is the fifth Greyhound since the 2017-18 season to score 1,000 career points.
- UIndy led for most of the contest, totaling nearly 39 minutes of playing ahead.
- Jakobie Robinson dished out a game-high five assists, as the team recorded 16 on 28 made field goals.
- The Hounds outscored the Saints in the paint, 36-22. Tchoua chipped in another 13 points, while also grabbing seven boards.
- Committing only nine turnovers, Monday marked the fourth straight – and eighth overall – contest that UIndy has recorded single-digit miscues.

MORE NOTES
The Hounds complete the regular season sweep of the Saints, adding the 26-point victory to their 75-58 win back on Dec. 11 … Tchoua now sits at 922 career points … Julian Steinfeld was instrumental in the paint dominance, finishing with seven points and eight rebounds.
