ASHLAND, Ohio – The UIndy women's basketball team dropped their matchup with the reigning national-champions, the Ashland Eagles 97-71 on Saturday, falling to 0-2 to start the year.
Elana Wells was the highlight the bout with the No. 1-ranked squad, dishing out 30 of the Greyhounds 71 points, setting a new career high.

The Elgin, Ill. native was 12-for-18 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the three-point line, leading the Hounds in both categories. She also led in rebounds, assists (4), and steals (3), while not leaving the court for the entire first-half of action.

The Eagles controlled the pace early, jumping to a 30-11 lead after the first quarter of play. The Hounds fared better in the second, with nine of Well's points coming during the quarter.

With 50 seconds left in the half,
Jada Haines converted a steal the ball off an Ashland fast break.
Liv Becker went up for the layup but was fouled in the process. Going to the line, Becker made one-out-of-two free throws.

With the clock winding down in the second quarter, Wells drove for a layup right taking the deficit down to 28-48 before the intermission.

For the first six minutes of the second half, the Hounds' three out of the four scoring plays were from three-point range, two of which came from Wells.
Jada Patton took advantage of Ashland's fouls later in the third quarter. Patton made six points from these, four free throws and a layup. The Hounds outscored the Eagles 21-16 in the third quarter.

Ashland's potent offense continued to roll in the fourth as they increased their lead to 26, securing their 39th straight victory, dating back to the beginning of last season.

- Â UIndy was 27-72 (37.5%) from the field and 7-23 (30.4%) from beyond the three-point line.
-Â Fouls continued to plague the Hounds, with them getting hit with 23 in the contest.
- The Hounds also struggled with turnovers committing 17 during the contest.

The Greyhounds will stay in-state for a midweek Indiana-matchup against the NAIA Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 14, in the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Fitness Center.
