Hounds Fall to #13 Lewis in GLVC Quarterfinal

WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. – The UIndy volleyball saw its season come to an end on Friday in the GLVC quarterfinals against No. 13 and second-seeded Lewis in straight sets.

The Greyhounds finished 18-11, tallying their most wins since the 2019 season.

"It's always tough to end the season," said head coach Jason Reed. We had a solid season and continued to improve. I loved our fight down the stretch."

Grace Hegwood led the team with eight kills, while libero Ellie Spang scooped up 22 digs. Setter Claire Morris, who was named to the All-GLVC Second Team on Thursday evening, recorded her seventh double-double of the season, and third of the month, with 26 assists and 12 digs.

Spang finishes her rookie campaign with 440 digs, fifth-most by a freshman in program history.

Despite the sweep result, the match witnessed 17 ties and 10 lead changes, including nine and six, respectively, in the third set.

All-GLVC First Team middle Hannah Sabotin finished with seven kills and two blocks, while second-teamer Sophia Parlanti added with seven kills and four digs on the outside.

Reed now has 182 career wins during his 11-year tenure at UIndy, sitting just 18 victories from joining Jody Rogers (406) and Sue Willey (227) in the 200-club.

The senior class, consisting of Lauren Cullison, Elizabeth Eads, Hegwood, Ashlyn Meyer, and Sabotin led the program through the pandemic to wrap their careers with a turnaround season. Eads and Hegwood were freshmen in 2019 when UIndy earned a berth to the NCAA DII Midwest Regional for the first time since 2014.

"We wish our seniors the best and know they'll have success in their future endeavors," concluded Reed.
