ALLENDALE, Mich. – The University of Indianapolis men's basketball team kept its winning ways going, fighting past a gritty Grand Valley State Lakers team to score a 67-63 region win. With the Hounds' dub, they return to above-.500 basketball for the first time this season.
Â
The Hounds saw three hit double figures in scoring, with
Jesse Bingham leading with 16.
David Ejah was just shy of his first double-double of the season, ending the day with 11 points and seven rebounds in the team's third straight victory.
Â
INS & OUTS
Defense and tough rebounding were the name of the game early with the squads reaching a 15-all tie with just one-fourth of the game gone through.
Â
A 16-9 run, however, sent the Greyhounds into the break with a 31-22 advantage. That run saw seven different Greyhounds score the ball, capped off with a
Paul Zilinskas jumper.
Â
Â
The Hounds came out of the intermission on fire from beyond the arc, with Bingham and
Jarvis Walker nailing a pair of long bombs within the first two minutes of action.
Â
Grand Valley chipped away at the Hounds' advantage slowly, eventually bringing it within six with just eight minutes left of action. That is when Ejah would nail one of his trio of 3s on the day off a drive and kick by Walker.
Â
Â
The Lakers refused to quit, forcing a 61-61 tie with just two minutes left to play. However, playing the foul game did not work for the home team as Bingham and Zilinskas combined to knock down the final four from the charity stripe to ice the win.
Â
