Hounds Cap Weekend with Two Region Wins

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The 14th-ranked UIndy softball team wrapped up its stay at the Blue Bridge Battle Saturday with a pair of in-region victories. The Greyhounds earned close wins versus Trevecca Nazerene, 3-0, and Northwood, 2-1, to earn four wins in four games in Evansville.

GAME 1 | UIndy 3, Trevecca Nazarene 0
Ace Kenzee Smith spun her second complete-game shutout of the season, holding the Trojans to four hits – all singles – while striking out five and walking just two. She moves to 8-2 on the year and has trimmed her season ERA to 2.21.

All the run production came in the top of the third inning. Megan Nichols and Emily O'Connor set the table with singles, Lexy Rees followed with a sacrifice fly and Dominique Proctor punctuated things with a two-out, two-run double.

GAME 2 | UIndy 2, Northwood 1
Strong pitching and clutch hitter were the story once again. Senior Kaitlyn Brown went the distance in the circle, securing not only her first career complete game but also her first collegiate victory. The Granville, Ohio native needed just 70 pitches to get all 28 outs, allowing just four hits and zero walks in a remarkably efficient outing.

The offensive came up big with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth. With the score tied at 1-1, Proctor earned her third RBI of the day when her one-out single scored freshman Shelby Cook, who herself doubled.

UIndy's earlier run came in the second when Calvin followed an O'Connor double with an RBI single.

UP NEXT
UIndy heads east next weekend for two doubleheaders versus West Virginia opponents. The Hounds travel to Triadelphia, W.V., on Friday, March 3 for a visit to Wheeling University, followed by a stop in Bridgeport to take on Salem.
