#1 Hounds Sneak Past #11 Grand Valley State, Remain Perfect on the Season

ALLENDALE, Mich.– With moderate snowfall hitting the field all game long, the No. 1 UIndy women's lacrosse team pulled off a thrilling 12-11 victory on the road over the No. 11 Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Hounds improve to 7-0 on the year and have now won their last 24 games dating back to last season.

Joey Fowler guided the Hounds on offense with a team-leading four goals and four points scored. Quinn Malcolm and Olivia Bladon also chipped in well as each had three points. On defense, Amy Vegh had a team-high two caused turnovers while Audrey Moran corralled 10 saves in her winning performance protecting the cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
An out-of-character start struck the Hounds as they found themselves behind 3-0 to begin the game. Luckily, Fowler got things rolling for UIndy with back-to-back goals a short time later to trim into the deficit at hand. Despite this, Grand Valley State held strong against its top-ranked opponent and corralled a 6-3 lead midway through the second period. However, the Greyhounds turned the tables from here and rattled off four unanswered goals to take a slim one-goal advantage into the halftime locker room.

Outside of the Hounds scoring back-to-back goals early in the third period, each team answered the other in the scoring column all the way up until the final buzzer. The pivotal moment in the game came with just seconds left, when GVSU was awarded a free position shot while trailing by one. On the FP, the contested shot by the Lakers deflected off the side post which then saw Olivia Grogan scoop up the ground ball and run the clock out for the win.
