LEESBURG, Fla.—All-American
Kenzee Smith added another feather to her pitching cap Thursday, tossing her second no-hitter of the season and fourth of her career. The Indy native shut down Southern Connecticut State in Thursday's opener, 10-0, before the Greyhounds and game-two starter
Jayden Casebolt shut out Bentley, 5-0.
Â
GAME 1 | UIndy 10, Southern Conn. State 0 (5 innings)
Smith retired 15 of the 18 batters she faced, with one walk, one hit by pitch and one fielding error accounting for the Owls' only base runners. Smith struck out five while moving to 13-3 on the year. She is now the fifth player in program history with a multiple no-hitter season to her credit.
Â
Offensively, the Greyhounds batted around in both the second and third innings, including a game-changing six-run surge in the latter frame.
Maddy Stout finished the game with two triples and three RBIs,
Emily O'Connor also had three ribbies and
Shelby Cook scored twice.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 5, Bentley 0
The Hounds completed another shutout in the second game, as
Jayden Casebolt and the UIndy defense blanked the Falcons in all seven innings. Casebolt's perfect win/loss record remained intact, as she moved to 5-0 after fanning six and walking only two.
Â
The Greyhounds scored in each of the first three innings to give Casebolt a healthy cushion. Highlights included a bases-loaded walk from
Lexy Rees and a sacrifice fly apiece by
Shelby Cook and
Tara Williams.
