ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—All-America pitcher
Kenzee Smith led the Greyhounds to victory win at Lewis Sunday afternoon, tossing a three-hitter in the 4-1 win. In game 2, the Greyhounds were leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth when the contest was suspended due to weather. The teams will look to pick up there tomorrow afternoon.
Â
INS & OUTS
Smith flirted with perfection the majority of game 1, sitting down the first 17 batters in order. But with two out in the bottom of the sixth, the Flyers managed their first base runner with an infield single by leftfielder Gabi Nilles.
Â
Though she lost the shutout in the seventh, Smith finished with just three hits allowed and four Ks in seven innings to move to 16-3 on the year.
Â
Offensively, the Hounds got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI single by
Lexy Rees. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when
Dominique Proctor launched her third homer of the season – a two-run shot to centerfield.
Â
Rees and leadoff-hitter
Jocelyn Calvin both finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while
Maddy Stout had a walk, a run and a hit by pitch.
Â
UP NEXT
