INDIANAPOLIS – Facing a shorthanded UMSL Tritons Squad, the UIndy women's tennis team, freshly ranked No. 7 in the ITA rankings, took a confident 6-1 victory in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opening match.

INS AND OUTS
The No. 10 ranked pairing of Anna Novikova and Sofia Sharonova got the Hounds on the board first, taking a 6-2 win. A win by walkover in the No. 3 doubles slot secured the victory for the Hounds, but the Tritons didn't go down without a fight, claiming a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Triton's shorthandedness continued in singles action, forfeiting the No. 6 singles match, giving the Hounds and automatic 2-0 lead. Novikova added onto that with a straight sets victory in the top slot. Maria Fiacan and Diane Flament went onto win in straight sets as well, with Flament's coming via two 6-4 sets.

Aside from a Triton victory at No. 4 singles, Sharonova closed out the match, winning in straight sets, giving up only one game.

The Hounds are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m., taking on the Maryville Saints in their second conference match of the weekend.
