INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 5-ranked and top-seeded UIndy women's lacrosse team overcame a slow start to take down the fourth-seeded Missouri Western Griffons by a final of 15-9. With this, the Greyhounds advance to the GLVC title game on Sunday at noon ET at Key Stadium against either Maryville or Rockhurst.
It total, six Greyhounds on offense tallied at least one point.
Quinn Malcolm led the way with six (three goals, three assists) while
Anna Ziemba and
Joey Fowler each had five. On defense, Malcolm and
Mekayla Montgomery guided the team with two caused turnovers each while
Audrey Moran picked up the win between the pipes with eight saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In an uncharacteristic start, the top-seeded Hounds found themselves down 6-3 at the conclusion of the first quarter. However, UIndy would climb back and rattle off four unanswered goals in the second while holding MWSU to just one in return, making the game a 7-7 stalemate at the intermission.
The Greyhounds finally jumped into the driver's seat and rolled out seven unanswered goals through the third and into the fourth to put the game out of reach. In total, UIndy outscored Missouri Western by six in the second half.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Montgomery guided the way with eight draw controls while
Madison Phillips had seven.
-UIndy launched 30 shots while MWSU had 23.
-The Griffons had a game-high 15 ground balls while the Greyhounds added 13.
-The Hounds dominated the draw control circle at 19-9
