Baseball Finalizes Series Sweep With 6-2 Dub Against Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the final game of a four-game set against the Rockhurst Hawks (13-3, 9-19 GLVC), the Greyhounds got the job done, winning 6-2 to mark their sixth straight win and their 14th GLVC conference victory.

The stars of the contest were Logan Peterson and Caleb Vaughn. Peterson, in another bout of excellence, threw seven innings, giving up only four hits and one run while punching out 11, his most strikeouts on the season. It is also his second time reaching double-digit Ks, with his last start against SBU seeing 10. Vaughn, on the offensive side of the ball, stayed hot, going 3-5 with two RBIs and a homer on the day. He also added onto his already program record with another stolen base.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a dual three-up-three-down first inning, the Hounds got to work from the batter's box. A Nick Lukac two-out single to right was chased by a Jared Bujdos walk, Will Spear took the opportunity at hand a sent the "Twin Shredders" home on a double to right center field, giving the Hounds a 2-0 lead. Rockhurst would answer in the bottom of the second with a run of their own leaving it 2-1.

A Brandon DeWitt single and subsequent Hawk error made the contest 3-1 in the fourth. Vaughn later in that frame kept the ball rolling for the Hounds, knocking a ball up the middle to give the Hounds the three-run advantage.

It was smooth sailing from there with Vaughn adding another long ball in the sixth and then Brady Ware tallying an RBI single in the eighth to bring it to 6-1. The Hawks attempted a comeback, but the steady hand of E.J. White left that to rest, striking out the first two batters he saw for the save, his second in as many games.

UP NEXT
In a break from the regularly scheduled mid-week contests, the Greyhounds do not see the field again until May 5 where they kick off a four-game regular season ending series with the Lewis Flyers. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday at Greyhound Park.
