Greyhounds Endure Delays to Sweep Rams at NCAA Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 5-ranked and No. 3-seeded University of Indianapolis men's tennis team dominated their sweet-16 matchup with the Jefferson Rams. The Hounds saw three lighting delays and a location change attempt to slow down their momentum, but it could not be done with the Hounds winning 4-0

INS & OUTS
With heat in the low 90s, the Greyhounds battled to stay cool under the increasing sun of Orlando, Fla. Despite the unusual conditions for the Greyhounds, they started with a doubles victory just as they had done all year. Erwan Momo Andre and Matthieu Derache were the first to find victory. The French connection were sharp as they have been all year, rallying behind solid serves to grab a 6-3 victory. It was just minutes later when Nikolaj Talimaa and Louis Picaud, with all the energy in the world, found their victory out of the No. 3 slot.

After doubles is where the weather started to turn. Edgar Destouet, August Ehrnrooth and Tom Zeuch all jumped out to set one leads, but before they could close the deal, lighting struck forcing a 30-minute delay. There would be a short 10-minute stretch after the delay where the Hounds would take the first set at No. 1, 2, 4, 6 singles, but more storms forced the matches to be moved to the indoor courts of the USTA National Campus.

With a more than familiar structure of indoor tennis, the Hounds went to work. Edgar Destouet, who was fighting the conditions outside, was perfect indoors, winning five straight games to secure his victory. Picaud was next on the winners docket, taking a strong 6-1 second to grab a win.

Finally, with both Thomas Mathis and Talimaa at match point, it was Mathis who was a click faster on the trigger, securing the match for the Hounds.

Both higher seeds were victorious on the Hounds side of the bracket, with the Hounds set to battle No. 6-seed Flagler at 7 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.

The last time the Hounds matched up with Flagler was in the 2021 DII ITA Team Indoors where the Hounds took a 4-1 victory.
