Softball Outlasts Lewis in 11-Inning Marathon at NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS—The No. 1-seed UIndy softball team came out on top in a nail biter versus GLVC-rival Lewis Friday afternoon at the NCAA DII Midwest Regional. Three hours and 11 innings after the first pitch, the Greyhounds got a walk-off double from senior Maddy Stout to earn a 3-2 win.

The Hounds advance to tomorrow's regional final, set for 11 a.m. ET.  Their opponent will be determined this evening and will be posted here when available.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In its longest game in four years, UIndy twice come back to tie it before finally securing the victory with two outs in the bottom of the 11th. Sydnee Perry sneaked in a single between a pair of fly outs to set the stage for Stout. The West Chicago native sent the first pitch she saw into the left-center gap, bringing Perry all the way around with the game-winning run.

All the while, Kenzee Smith (33-4) battled through all 11 innings in the circle. The All-American delivered a season-high 183 pitches, escaping three bases-loaded jams; the last of which came in the 10th inning, with Stout's diving catch in foul territory ending the last Flyer threat.

Stout and Perry also teamed up to score the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Stout sent a liner to the gap that was ultimately judged to be an error, but the hard-hit ball was enough to send Perry across the plate to make it  2-2 and force extras.
