DENVER – The UIndy women's lacrosse team weathered a massive Maryville storm in the second half to claim a 14-9 win over the Saints in the Midwest Regional semifinal. With this, the Greyhounds successfully complete a season sweep over Maryville and are responsible for all three of the losses the Saints had this season.
Â
The trio of
Jess Soenen,
Olivia Bladon, and
Joey Fowler all produced a team-leading four points on the offensive side of the ball. On defense,
Madison Phillips caused a team-best three turnovers while
Audrey Moran corralled seven saves between the pipes.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds raced out to a 4-0 advantage before Maryville could land a goal on the board in return. UIndy kept it's foot on the pedal and carried an 8-2 advantage into the halftime intermission.
Â
After a goal by
Jess Soenen with 2:03 left in the third made it a 10-3 contest, Maryville came alive and poured in five unanswered goals and quickly made it a two-goal affair with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the game. However, the UIndy defense clamped up and held the Saints in check while allowing the Greyhound offense to score three unanswered goals at the end of the game to lock up the win.
