DeWitt Dominance Catapults Greyhounds Over #6 Hawks in Game One

QUINCY, Ill. – Brandon DeWitt was simply amazing as the University of Indianapolis baseball team dethroned the No. 1-seed Quincy in game one of the three-game super regional. The Hounds now hold a one game advantage over the No. 6-ranked Hawks with a chance to punch their ticket to Cary, N.C. tomorrow at 12 p.m.

DeWitt went all nine innings for his tenth victory of the season, punching out 10 batters with only three earned runs on 143 pitches. Outside of DeWitt's excellence, Nick Lukac and Drew Donaldson both came up big, each totaling two RBIs, with Lukac coming via the long ball.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The home squad in the Hawks jumped out early in the contest, nabbing a one-run lead after D2CCA Player of the Year Luke Napelton's sacrifice fly to centerfield. The excitement from the Hawk's fans was quieted shortly after by one Nick Lukac. A Denton Shepler walk set the stage for Lukac to take advantage of a short right field wall and make it a 2-1 Greyhound lead!

The third, fourth and fifth saw only one hit with DeWitt and the Hawk's Spencer Walker cruising. A Napelton double and then a single by Quincy would even the score in the bottom of the sixth.

It was not until the eighth where the Hounds took the advantage back. Will Spear got the party started on the second pitch he saw, blasting a ball into right center for a single. A later DeWitt single with some gutsy baserunning by Jared Bujdos made it runners at second and third with the Greyhounds most dangerous batter up. Donaldson got the job done and more, diving at first to beat out a tight-as-nails throw and to score two.

The Hawks attempted to battle back with a run in the eighth, but the electricity of DeWitt in the ninth shut the door and gave the Hounds game one.

UP NEXT
The Hounds battle the Hawks in game two of the three-game set tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET. If the Hawks force game three, the decider will take place thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.
