Late Header by Thanhofer Propels Hounds Past Tritons

ST. LOUIS – Battling an upset hungry Missouri-St. Louis Tritons squad (2-2-2), the No. 8-ranked University of Indianapolis men's soccer team (7-0-1) stayed with their winning ways, capturing a 1-0 victory in late in St. Louis. The Hounds now improve their conference leading record to 5-0, staying as just one of two schools to be undefeated in conference play.

Niklas Thanhofer was the man for the Greyhounds, netting the decider off a beautiful corner by Michael Tselios at the 80th minute.

INS & OUTS
Defense was quality for both sides early in the contest, with neither side seeing quality opportunities. The Hounds would not test the Triton's keeper until the 12th minute when Tselios hammered a ball to the top left of the frame, barely being saved. That would not be the only miraculous save made by the Triton's goalkeeper, as he once again denied Tselios at the 33rd minute.

After an even first half of action under the lights of St. Louis, the Hounds came out aggressive in the second. It only took five minutes for the Hounds to find their first opportunity, with Jakob Davod slapping one just to the right of the net, setting the pace for the second 45 minutes of play. Kabiru Gafar went to work, placing two quality shots on goal within just minutes of each other, but continued excellence by the Tritons keeper kept it scoreless.

Physical play and Greyhound aggressiveness would eventually pay off as a corner kick by Tselios lined up a beautiful opportunity for the Hounds, one that Thanhofer took full advantage of, etching the Hounds first, and what would be only, goal of the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX
- The second half shone for the Greyhounds offense, with them more than doubling their first half shot count, sending 12 shots to the first half four.
- Thanhofer's goal is his second of the season, and his third of his career as a Hound.
- UMSL were slapped with three yellow cards in the match, and one red card.
- The Hounds lived in the UMSL half, taking 13 corners.
