Hounds Blanked by Prairie Stars

INDIANAPOLIS - Friday, Oct. 25, the University of Indianapolis women's soccer team (7-7-1, 6-5-1 GLVC) fell to Illinois Springfield (6-6-3, 6-5-1) 2-0. The loss drops the Greyhounds to seventh place in the GLVC standings, while the Prairie Stars move to sixth place.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Prairie Stars put Jenna Taghikhani to test early, as she had to deny a shot sent on goal by Dani Auble just over a minute into the match. The Hounds found their footing offensively moments later as a pair of shots from Nicole Schroeder and Sarah Wegener made for good challenges on Allison Mirimanian in net. The remainder of the first half saw a lot of physicality from both sides, as 9 total fouls were called between UIndy and Illinois Springfield.

Coming out of the second half, the Prairie Stars got off to another quick start, as Madison Grandys put one towards Taghikhani in the 54th minute to no avail. Illinois Springfield maintain persistent pressure in the Hound's defensive third, earning a corner at the 58:11 mark. Brooke Biffar set the table nicely for Kallie Drexler, who rifled a shot past Taghikhani to break the stalemate.

The Hounds worked hard to find an equalizer, but couldn't break through the stout defense of Illinois Springfield, who promptly shifted their formation in efforts to hold UIndy at bay. Marin Dierkers was inches away from finding the match's equalizing goal in the 82nd minute, but Mirimanian slammed the door shut to maintain the lead. To cushion the lead for the Prairie Stars, Katelynn Ward found nylon in the 87th minute to make the final score 2-0.

INSIDE THE BOX
 - UIndy totaled five shots on goal in the match, which is just the fourth instance of the Hounds having 5 or more SOG and losing the match during this season.
 - In a chippy match, the Greyhounds committed 14 fouls on the night, one shy of the team season-high of 15.
 - Brooke Biffar had an assist for Illinois Springfield tonight, putting her season total at six and moving her to third in the GLVC in assists.
