KENOSHA, Wisc. - The No. 5Â ranked UIndy wrestling team competed at the Jim Koch Open in Kenosha, Wisc. on Saturday, one of the top wrestling tournaments in the midwest.
The Jim Koch Open had 17 teams competing including Division I schools such as; Illinois, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Purdue and Wisconsin.
The Greyhounds had two sixth place finishers in their respective weight classes, Jake Niffenegger in 141 and Tanner Tishner in 133.
INS & OUTS
Niffenegger earned his second top six individual finish of the season with his sixth place finish today. His first placement came in the Bob Del Rosa Open when he won his 133 weight class.
Niffenegger went 2-3 on the day, and earned his first win of the day in the first round, 6-1 against Illinois' Olin Walker. He then won against Grand Valley State's Brady Vogt in decisive fashion, 21-5.
He stumbled in his final three matches, but was competitive in all of them, falling in each match by three points or less.
Tishner had a busy day as well, wrestling in seven matches today. In his seven matches he ended with four wins and three losses.
Tishner began his day with a convincing 17-1 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan's Kentrell Kinney, and later backed up his first match with another win in the quarterfinals against Thomas More's Breydon Whorton, 11-4.
He then found himself against McKendree's Evan Benitez where he earned a hard-fought 6-3 win, and against Gunnar LeGrand, another McKendree Bearcat, where he won 19-1.
Other notable results today for the Hounds included that of Mason Cantu, who won two matches today against McKendree's Brady Metz and Grand Valley State's Cayden Strong, by a combined score of 38-12.
Nathan Smith also had two wins today over Grand Valley State's Simon Dominguez, 11-0, and a close 1-0 win over Findlay's Wyatt Nemitz.

UIndy will now have a weekend off before taking on McKendree on Dec. 3 at home, in the teams first of five GLVC duals this season.Â
